Michael John Keenan Who Am I?
And Exactly What Am I About?

Hi my name is Michael John Keenan I reside in beautiful Toowoomba QLD, Australia. I am 36 years of age and I am married with one very cheeky little baby girl who keeps her mum and myself very busy indeed.

I am a professional retail electronics salesman who has been involved in the whole retail technology sales industry for many years. This whole area of technology based products is a fascinating and rapidly ever changing scene. As more and more technological advances are made it is absolutely exciting to see these changes make there way into new electronic products that make our lives simply more exciting, exhilarating and most importantly easier and more time saving in what is a very busy world indeed.

I myself believe in the absolute values of honesty, integrity and reliability and as such this website has been built as such upon the absolute primary foundation of providing valuable and relevant information to consumers about the ways in which they themselves can really learn how to save money when retail electronics shopping. This website also contains straight to the point product specific information and tips.

Retail storefront electronics sales as we know it is a very changing business and the online world is the next opportunity challenge for all storefront based retail businesses. Consumers these days are getting really net savvy and they want to be able to do there research online and they also want to do there product buying online, but only if and when the price is right. And there are very real savings that a consumer can gain for themselves if they do choose to buy online. Why? The main reason is simply because of the lower operating costs involved in comparison to operating a physical retail storefront. So it is a fact because of this one primary reason alone, that consumers can always gain a better price deal online in comparison to purchasing a product from a physical retail storefront.

However...

Some prices given online for technology based products can sometimes be really ...really cheap and most times these products are being sold online way under there actual cost price. And most-times this occurs because of a few and somewhat big traps which consumers need to know and be really aware about.

  • Traps such as 'Gray Market Products'. Which refers to the flow of new goods through distribution channels other than those authorized or intended by the manufacturer. Gray market goods are not generally illegal. Instead, they are being sold outside of normal distribution channels by companies which may have no relationship with the actual producer of the goods.

  • And Traps such as 'Parallel Imports'. Which is a non-counterfeit product imported from another country without the permission of the intellectual property owner. Parallel imports are very often referred to also as a 'Gray Product'.

But Why Are These Traps?

Some entrepreneurs will buy a product from a country where it is available cheaply, because of different countries differing exchange rates etc. Then they will import the product legally to there target market and sell it at a price which provides a profit, but at a price which is below the normal market price which is available for that product. This may seem fine in theory, however most importantly you need to realize that this type of product will not come with an 'Australian Manufacturers Warranty'. And in actual fact, you may not be able to get your product serviced at all within Australia, even if you are actually willing to pay for it entirely yourself. So your only option for getting a product fixed may be to actually ship it back to its country of origin and just simply hope that it comes back working.

Another Big Problem With Gray Market Products.

Aren’t the products destined for Europe or Asia made to exactly the same specifications as the ones for Australia?

  • Absolutely Not! Although the quality of these products may be similar, they are designed with features that may not work properly at all within Australia.

Are There Any Other Problems With Gray Market Products?

Yes! Aside from the often missing cables and accessories, gray market products frequently are provided with outdated software, manuals provided in another language and jacks and adapters that may not be compatible at all with other components in your system. Depending on the products actual country of origin, the quality standards in the products original manufacture may be also actually lower than what is required by Australian standards.

So How Can I Spot A 'Gray Market Product'?

Always first look for an 'Australian Manufacturer’s Warranty'. Many gray market websites will either offer just a “Manufacturer’s Warranty”, which will only be good in its country of origin, or just an “Australian Warranty”, which is just merely an aftermarket warranty provided by the company that is running the website. Also look (in the websites fine print) for phrases that talk about “this product may be missing some of its original packaging, cables, etc.”. Businesses that operate completely on the level always receive their products completely packaged and sealed directly from the manufacturer and/or the manufacturers authorized distributor, and you should always be wary of any businesses that don’t sell their products in exactly this same way.

And Another Really Bad Consumer Trap: 'Customer Baiting'!

Baiting is a method that is more & more being used online. And it refers to a product that is initially sold at a very cheap and mostly well ...well below cost price. And once you have purchased that product you will then be contacted by that products seller etc, who then will attempt to sell other expensive add-on products to your initial cheap product purchase. And almost always if you refuse to buy any expensive add-on extras the initial product purchase will suddenly just become out of stock and unavailable.

And Now Finally On A Good Note...

As I am sure you can see there are a few really avoidable consumer traps online that consumers just need to be aware about. And that is after all the primary purpose of this entire website, 'to provide information that is of real value, so that consumers can simply gain real and worthwhile value for themselves'.

And so I really hope that you just enjoy your visit here as much as I really enjoy putting it all together each and everyday.

Best Regards As Always,

Michael John Keenan.
